2016 EBR Cookery Contest



The parish cookery contest is a great opportunity for members to explore their culinary skills. Dishes can be original creations or a family favorite, internet find or Pinterest project, it's really up to you! Dishes must be prepared at home and brought to the contest for judging. Please note that only one serving of the dish is allowed to be entered. A complete copy of the recipe must accompany the dish entered, including all ingredients and cooking instructions.


The 2016 East Baton Rouge 4-H Cookery Contest will once again be held in conjunction with our Parish Livestock Show. The Cookery Contest will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Nelson Memorial, located across from the livestock show barn on LSU's Baton Rouge campus. Registration will take place at 10:00 AM and will close at 10:30 AM. Following registration, dishes will be judged by a panel of judges. Awards will be presented following judging, estimated time of 12:00 noon.


The following divisions will be included:

- Ground Beef Division: all dishes in this category must contain at least 1 pound of ground beef. Under this division there will be 3 categories which are: Low Calorie Main Dish (must be less than 300 calories per serving), Quick & East Main Dish (ready to serve in less than an hour), One Dish Meal (provide food from at least three of the My Pyramid food groups).


- Poultry Division: the dish can be an appetizer, main dish, soup, salad, or snack. Under this division there will be 3 categories which are: Chicken (must contain at least 2 pounds of chicken), Processed Poultry (must contain at least 12 ounces of value added poultry products), and Other Poultry (must contain at least 2 pounds of poultry meat excluding chicken but can be duck, goose, guinea, ostrich, or emu).


- Egg Division: the dish must use at least 4 eggs, no raw eggs allowed. Under this division there will be 3 categories which are: appetizer and salad, main dish, dessert.


-Sugar Division: the dish must contain at leat 1 cup of sugar. Under this division there will be 4 categories which are: candy, cookies, cakes, and pies.


- Seafood Division: the dish must use at least 1 pound of the primary seafood for the category it will be entered in. Under this division there will be 6 categories which are: oyster, crab, crawfish, shrimp, fish, and other.
